In May 2025, Nathan Choi launched Color Shift: Transracial Adoptees, a podcast dedicated to sharing the nuanced experiences of transracial adoptees. As a transracial adoptee himself, Choi created this platform to foster understanding and connection within the adoptee community and beyond.
Color Shift serves as a conversational space where adoptees can share their personal narratives. The podcast aims to capture the complexities of growing up between cultures and identities. In the preview episode, Choi describes the show as akin to "three friends catching up over coffee—one speaking, one listening and asking questions, and you, the audience, quietly taking it all in."
The first full episode features Nicky Hammond, a Korean Australian adoptee, coach, and breathworker. Hammond discusses her journey from growing up in a white Australian family to reconnecting with her heritage in Seoul and creating healing spaces for fellow adoptees.
Supporting the Mission Through Merchandise
To support the podcast and amplify adoptee voices, Choi partnered with Adoptive Threads, a company founded by Vietnamese adoptee Steve George in Hawaii. Together, they released the "Color Shift 1.0" t-shirt, with a portion of the proceeds going toward building the podcast and supporting adoptee storytelling.
